Terran Orbital

Terran Orbital (USA, founded 2013) is a manufacturer and integrator of small satellites, serving both commercial and government customers. Through its subsidiary Tyvak, the company has built numerous CubeSats and smallsats for diverse missions (from technology demos to scientific and defense applications). Terran Orbital is also developing the PredaSAR constellation – a planned fleet of small SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellites – to offer persistent all-weather Earth imaging capabilities. In 2022, the company went public and announced the construction of a large satellite production facility in Florida to significantly scale up manufacturing. Terran Orbital’s vertically integrated approach (designing satellite buses, payload integration, testing, etc.) and its involvement in both manufacturing for clients and operating its own constellations illustrate the growing maturity of the smallsat industry, where companies serve multiple roles in the ecosystem.
