MDA Space

MDA Space, founded in 1969 in Canada, is a major space technology company known for its satellite systems and space robotics. MDA provides end-to-end solutions including the design and manufacture of satellites and satellite subsystems, the provision of geointelligence and Earth observation data (notably through its RADARSAT radar satellite program), and the development of advanced space robotics. The company built the iconic Canadarm robotic arms for NASA’s Space Shuttle and International Space Station, and is now developing the Canadarm3 for the Lunar Gateway. After decades of growth, including a period under Maxar Technologies, MDA re-emerged as an independent Canadian company in 2020 and now has over 3,000 employees worldwide. It continues to win major contracts such as building 198 satellites for Telesat’s Lightspeed constellation, solidifying its role as a key partner in international space missions.
